Sara found herself in a little used stairwell several corridors over from Exam Room Three. The observant nurse who'd followed Sara as she dashed down the hallway like a specter found her there, fists clenched against her chest, struggling to breathe, her face as white as the hospital wall she was leaning against, her lips bloodless.
"Dr. Strampein, what's wrong?" the nurse cried. Sara turned toward the woman.
"Oh, God," she moaned as the nurse opened the door and shouted for help.
Mt. Carmel Monastery, with its stone towers, seems more like a castle tour stop then a place Sara might find healing. But its abbess/therapist is Sara's last hope. Can Mother Elizabeth dispel the darkness in Sara's mind? A promise of healing and love await her. If only Sara can remember...

Remember Sara The Women of Mt Carmel C S Bills 9781490398945 Books Reviews
I have been looking for a new author and when I read this book, I knew I found one. The book is really good and I could hardly put it down. The story of the doctor and how she is given another chance to get better is outstanding. I wish she had more books out so I could get them and read them. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Except for Amish romances, I'm normally not a fan of overtly Christian novels but this is an exception. Extremely well-written, without being saccharine or sappy, it mixes medicine, psychotherapy, Catholicism, believably human characters with real faults and foibles, humor, romance, and mystery into a story that keeps the reader interested right to the end. Even though I guessed the outcome of the mystery about two chapters from the end, I still wanted to know *how* it was solved. I look forward to more from this author.
I predict great things for this budding new author's future! C.S. Bills' versatility can already be seen by the way she is able to captivate young audiences in a book like Breakaway (Clan of the Ice Mountains, her first novel) and then turn around with a compelling story like REMEMBER SARA for adults.
In this, Bills' second book, I was intrigued by the multiple levels on which it can be read and understood - the interest of the main storyline itself; the psychological undertones within the various interpersonal relationships; and (what particularly appealed to me) the contemplative reflections "verbalized" by the main character.
We are treated to glimpses of the depth of Bills' understanding of the human psyche, and her spiritual observations which bear re-reading, slowly and thoughtfully, to truly absorb their richness and meaning.
I look forward to delving into the lives of the other characters within her Mt. Carmel series. One word of caution do not begin reading this book until you have time to spend within its pages. You will not want to put it down!
The story of Sara is one of the most emotional and healing book I have ever read. God directed this author in every page written or this is my opinion and I don't think I could be persuaded to think otherwise. Suppressed trauma affects so many people and few have the opportunity to receive the help they need. This is a well written story and a wonderful read. I recommend it highly. Thank God for the opportunity to read great fiction.
This story was not what I expected, but it was very well-written, and interesting. The plot revolves around a female cardiac surgeon, and of how she spends time getting psychotherapy by a Nun (who is a gifted Psychiatrist) at a convent. Sara has serious panic attacks and has to take a leave of absence in order to regain her mental health. We find out about the other nuns, as well as the other people in Sara's life.
This story held my interest, and was enjoyable to read, and that's what I'm always looking for in a book.
This book spoke to me right away. I had a hard time putting it down. The emotional distress in the beginning felt so real, and then the healing that began as she dared to find the truth.
What a blessing to read something that speaks to the tremendous wounds we carry through life and the healing that is possible through Christ and the counselor he guides us to. I love reading a book that helps me grow, not just entertains me. C. S. Bills obviously has done the hard work of emotional healing and her writing reflects it. How encouraging to know life doesn't always have to be so hard when we let God into the hurt places.
I would recommend this book to any truth seeker who wants to go to the deeper places, who wants truth more than comfort, who innately knows there is "more" than meets the eye.
I would give this book more stars if possible.
I am happy to note that this book has an author who appears to have done her research, at least, on the topic of Catholic Christianity, in general, and Carmelite spirituality in particular. She has woven it into a pleasant, well-crafted story which instructs almost as much as it entertains. Only once did I recognize a minor "oops" [MILD SPOILER} In the last chapter, our heroine is planning a major life celebration/event, but, as described, according to Church law, it could not be allowed in the venue chosen, in the first place. (It perhaps would have been in the "loosey-goosey" 1970s, but certainly not now!)
